Oil and Gas

Oil is an important export industry in Sudan. Estimates suggest that oil accounts for between 70% and 90% of Sudan's total exports. The primary importers of Sudanese oil are Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, and India. Sudan has a total of five oil refineries two of them are complex refineries and the other three are small topping units with low complexity. The total refining capacity of the Sudanese units is about 143,700 barrels per day (b/d) . However, the only operating refineries are the Khartoum refinery company (KRC) and AlObeid topping Unit at the moment. The KRC refinery is the largest and the most sophisticated refinery in Sudan, located approximately 45 miles north of Khartoum, with a refining capacity of 100,000 Barrels per day (b/d). The other full-conversion unit is the Port Sudan refinery which has a full capacity of 21,700 barrels per day.
